GGotW: Why the name Shilo?
SvP: I've been obsessed with Repo! The Genetic Opera for around about four years now. I love it aesthetically and the sound track and whole concept is amazing. The main character in the film is called Shilo and I just thought it was really cute and short and easy to remember.

GGotW: The porcelain part?
SvP: I didn't really want a "two name" name and I was really just trying to come up with something. I'm really, really pale naturally and people kept telling me I looked like a porcelain doll.

GGotW: Does your pale skin work for you, in the styles you shoot?
SvP: It does! With the Goth style, it works very well and I get a lot of compliments. With vintage, too, as it seems pale skin works well with most colors and it reminds a lot of people of Dita Von Teese, who I think is amazing. Although I think a lot of photographers I work with are silently cursing me while trying to light me--it's very difficult to not wash me out entirely. With black and white photos, I look very dramatic, too...which can be a good or a bad thing depending on what the concept is.

GGotW: How long have you been making fashion?
SvP: I've been making fashion my whole life. I made dresses for my Barbie dolls when I was a kid! It progressed into cutting up old clothes and then thrifting a lot and customizing things. Studying fashion design at school really just seemed like a logical progression for me.

GGotW: Do you have a favorite fashion style to work on?
SvP: I'm big into latex at the moment, I love the way it photographs and it's been fun teaching myself all the techniques just from online tutorials. Asides from that, my designs are usually very conceptual. I designed a collection for school based around Jack the Ripper and his victims, but had this whole feminist philosophy tied into it too, relating it to the rape culture we see today. Anything that can somehow communicate a message is interesting to me.


GGotW: What took you from designer and maker to model?
SvP: When I started going to university for fashion, for some reason most of the friends I made were in the photography department. Plus, my school is interdisciplinary so a lot of mediums would cross. Everyone was asking me to model for their projects and I realized how much I liked it. I began to feel attached to the things I shot and felt like I had an equal part in the creation of it--I began to see it as a new medium and a way to collaborate and network with other like minded people.

GGotW: What do you wear when you're not in front of the camera?
SvP: I wear a lot of the same stuff I wear for the camera! Obviously I have a lot of shoot clothes that aren't wearable--I have this amazing 1930's ballgown I just bought that is way too delicate to wear out. But I wear a lot of pencil skirts, cardigans, pretty dresses ect. I believe in dressing up. I never leave the house without my makeup fully done, either. I wear black 90% of the time. I never wear jeans and t-shirts or sweatpants with my hair in a messy bun. The thought makes me shudder!

GGotW: Coffee, tea, wine, or beer?
SvP: Tea. I'm English, so I grew up drinking a lot of tea and my family drink a lot of tea. I have a cupboard filled with it, but my favorite is honestly just PG Tips with a splash of milk. Or Teavana Youthberry tea or Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice. I like coffee if it's really sweetened, and a glass of wine is lovely from time to time as well. I'm not a huge beer drinker though.

GGotW: Your English, do you live in England?
SvP: No, I moved to the United States when I was nine years old. My mum married my step-dad, who is American, and we moved to California--my mum, sister, and I. I've been back a lot to visit my family and friends over there, though! I miss it alot.

GGotW: What do you enjoy about being in front of the camera?
SvP: I use it as a way to be creative. I feel like people have this misconception about modeling that it's all about being pretty and having someone else's work on display. Maybe it sounds egotistical, but I always see my work as equal parts mine as it is the photographers or the designers. It's a collaborative effort to me. Which is why my favorite shoots are the ones where I get to develop a concept--scout a cool location, browse a million vintage shops for the perfect outfit, and go crazy doing my makeup. I also really like feeling as though I have a hand in changing beauty standards. Girls nowadays are force fed so many "mainstream" photographs and are made to believe there is only one kind of beauty and if they're not six feet tall and perfect, they can't be beautiful. I want to change that. I have a lot of friends who do fit that mold who are gorgeous, but I want people to know that there's more than one kind of gorgeous and they all deserve equal representation.


GGotW: Who do you shoot with the most?
SvP: I've shot with a lot of amazing people. While I do have people I've worked with consistently, I like having a variety of styles in my portfolio. However, I do have a lot of photographer friends I can call up when I have a crazy idea and they'll always be up to shoot it. I won't name names but they probably know who they are! :)

GGotW: Do you have advice for aspiring models?
SvP: Don't feel like you have to categorize yourself. You can be realistic--for example, I'm 5'5 so I'm unlikely to ever be an agency runway model, but that doesn't mean I can't be high fashion. Don't let yourself be pressured into anything you aren't 100% comfortable with. Do what you need to do to feel comfortable, whether it's bringing a friend to a shoot or putting on some music to relax. If you're not comfortable, it will show in the pictures! And a good photographer will understand that!

GGotW: How did you get into modeling?
ZB: About three years ago, I was asked by photographer Gore Play to model. He liked the way I looked and especially liked my creative direction when it came to setting up shoots and concepts. I had never really considered modelling but had always been interested in performing and creative arts since young. I don't actually consider myself a "model" as such. Modelling for the sake of modelling doesn't interest me. Artistic concepts intrigue me and being a part of the creation of art is what interests me and Gore Play and photographer Peter Kelly who I also have recently worked with, really understood that.

GGotW: What do you do for work?
ZB: I don't have a stable job as I'm currently pretty busy studying at university, majoring in history and literature. I run a small antiques business online, Madame Deficit Antiques and Curiosities and freelance as a costume milliner and wig maker, so I often only work when people approach me for work.

I've applied for a floristry course so I'm hoping that eventually as a florist I'll be able to have a stable job, seeing as though my uni majors are probably not going to get me a practical job any time soon!

GGotW: Where do you sell you stuff?
ZB: Mainly online so via Facebook, eBay and Gumtree.  I'm finally starting to build a name for myself as a milliner and wig maker so now and then I'll have people approach me out of the blue to create something for them. I'll be moving to selling at Melbourne vintage markets soon.

My dream is eventually to have a physical store to sell my antiques, costume millinery, wigs and possibly include my floristry skills!

GGotW: Tell me about your band.
ZB: I've been involved with Ashendusk for around 8 months.  We are a doom metal project which was originally started by Alister Haskell.  We have 2 singers, 2 guitarists, one bass player, one keyboardist and a drummer as well as me, the cellist.

I've played classical music since I was three as my father was a classical musician so being able to play the cello in a non-typical sort of way is really great creatively (Apocalyptica has really inspired me musically!).

I've found that often people are skeptical about a cello's place in a doom metal band but we tend to explore the melancholy, romantic and beautiful side of metal, which a cello's tone is great to portray.

GGotW: When did your interest in the Alternative begin?
AW: I guess I've always been a little bit "strange", my mother is a goth (I guess that truly makes me second gen!), and also has an interest in motorbikes, so my childhood was spent in Harley Davidson T-shirts singing along to Kate Bush, my pre-teen rebellion was to like pink things and listen to The Spice Girls!
Fortunately that didn't last long, by 15 I was back in black... Where I belong!

GGotW: I understand you worked in Television?
AW: I worked in television twice, "Snog, Marry, Avoid" with Endemol productions and "Crimes Against Fashion" with Storyvault TV, and appear as a dead body in Lesbian Bed Death's  video for Soul Sucker

GGotW: Where do you get most of you outfits?
AW: My wardrobe is mostly a mixture of handmade, vintage and pieces from Forever in Black.
Most of my Lolita wardrobe is handmade, Lolita brand isn't something I can justify the luxury of at the moment, and I like to make my own clothing anyway so I find fabrics at my local textile market, screen print my own or recently I found a fabric I liked that I bought from Spoonflower.

Queenie, who runs Forever in Black made all of the corsets I currently own, previously I had bought them from ebay or high street "alt" shops, those were pretty but uncomfortable and bent out of shape so quickly, but once I switched to wearing custom pieces I've never looked back!

One of them I have had for almost four years now and there's not even the slightest bend in it, and it's incredibly comfortable, I'd encourage anybody who likes the look and shape that corsets give to seek out independent corset makers rather than buying mass-produced, the quality is much better and from an ethical standpoint I like to know that children with bleeding fingers haven't been involved in making my clothes.

GGotW: What got you interested in textiles?
AW: I've been interested in hand making clothing since my mid-teens when I discovered that I just couldn't find things I liked in shops (just before the internet shopping explosion), through a series of happy accidents I ended up taking a Fashion A Level at college. The art department of the college I went to didn't really get a lot of funding so we ended up doing a lot more surrounding surface design than fashion students usually do, often on old bedsheets that someone had donated.
I ended up becoming a bit of a control freak, and just designing garments wasn't enough for me any more, I feel like I have to be involved in as much of the process as I can so that I know I will end up with something as close to how I envisioned it as I can.
I mostly work with screen print at the moment, which is something I fell in love with at University. I'm hoping to start my own business making printed clothing and accessories.

GGotW: You're New to Gothic Modelling, what got you started?
JA: I always loved the goth scene even though I only got into it recently. Ever since I started getting into the scene I wanted to model but I had no idea how to get started. One day my friend who is a model (more commercial than alternative) invited me with to an elegant goth shoot and I loved it!



GGotW: What keeps you coming back for more shoots?
JA: I love the feeling of being in front of the camera. It's addictive!

GGotW: Is there anything you haven't done, in the way of a shoot, that you'd like to?
JA: I'd like to do some more Avante-Garde stuff, anything unusual. I'd also love to get into horror and macabre shoots.

GGotW: What do you do when you're not modelling?
JA: I'm currently studying fashion and I'm loving it! I also have a long-term boyfriend who I love very much and have to manage my time carefully because I have 3 part-time jobs as well - I'm a barlady, waiter and a hostess.

GGotW: Where do you hope to see your fashion studies take you?
JA: I want to become an alternative fashion buyer to get alternative brands into fashion stores so that they are more easily accessible and affordable

Is there a lot of work for a Goth model in Africa?
JA: There aren't really paying jobs in South Africa, so it's mostly TFCD based work. I have to sometimes go out of my way to search for photographers to work with and organise a shoot.

GGotW: What can you tell me about Emalyth?
JA: Emalyth is a company that focuses on promoting the alternative arts - bands, models, designers, dancers, etc. They host many live events and have the Face of Emalyth project for models, photographers and makeup artists where we collaborate and get our work published through them. GGotW: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
JA: I've always wanted to move to Finland. I hope to move there once I finish studying. I feel like I belong there because I love all things Norse and all my favourite bands are there.

GGotW: How Long have you been in the goth scene?
E13: I have been in the goth scene for about 15 years, and I started modelling about five years ago. I never really had the courage to model before that, but after a few drinks and a cute girl convincing me that she would only post the good photos, I succumed pretty quick!

GGotW: I hear you're a top notch DJ, how did you get where you're at?
E13: I was a regular DJ at a night called Rock-N-Roll Highschool, but had to give up my residency for a better paying non-DJ gig, and I occasionally DJ at Sanctuary, Vancouver's premier goth night run by DJ Pandemonium. I DJ this weekend at Sin City Fetish Night, where I also get to play hostess and door whore.

GGotW: What are the hottest tracks you're playing lately?
E13: Right now some of my favourite tracks are from Ashbury Heights, Encephalon, Aesthetic Perfection, And One and Die Antword. I still love to drop some of the classics and even some new wave tracks because we do get quite a range of music lovers at Sanctuary, and I like to make it my job to get everyone on the dance floor at some point :)

GGotW: Does Vancouver, Canada have much of a Goth Scene?
E13: Vancouver is a small town and people sometimes think that because a lot of industrial music has come from Vancouver (Skinny
Puppy, Frontline Assembly, Left Spine Down) that the scene here must be rockin' but its not really. I think L.A. is still the nexus of goth central on the west coast :) I was there last spring and it was great! I totally understand why so many people love that city, if I could I would move there in a heartbeat!

GGotW: What Photographers have you worked with?
E13: I have worked with Shimona Henry of Pinup Perfection, David Denofreo of Black Opal Images, Grant Malo Photography, Atratus of Gothic BC and Patrick Parenteau of DVPIX and the list goes on.....

GGotW: Have you ever shot for a fashion line?
E13: I have modelled for Deadly Couture Latex in an Under the Sea Fasion Show, Judy Basha Designs and Lace Embrace Corsetier in a Historical Corset Exhibition. We are actually super lucky in Vancouver to have so many super creative people helping keep the scene alive and growing, so for that I am always thankful.

GGotW: You were Featured as Goth Girl of the Week back in 2009, what have you been up to since?
MS: In the 2009 i graduated from Aristotle University where i was studying "Theology", and started dj-ing as full-time job.

The alternative modeling was difficult to survive in Greece although i was always working with model agencies and working as a model in various styles.
I start learning the Greek Sign Language and when I graduated, I moved to Germany (summer 2012).The purpose was to continue my studies as a translator in Greek sign language but the crisis in Greece changed my mind.

GGotW: Four years ago you said there were no ALT Model Agency's in your home of Greece, has that changed?
MS: Nothing has been changed... its not easy to work in Greece as alternative model. Fortunately there are some model agencies and photographers who support all kinds of models and there are opportunities.

GGotW: Are you still DJing?
MS: I am the manager and djane of the "Geisterwelt team". The last years was really great, various events in Greece such as the Amphi Festival & E-Tropolis Official Warm Up Parties in Thessaloniki, many tribute parties to bands, and participation with some of the biggest goth festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen in Germany and Castle Party Festival in Poland.

Some guest dj sets here in Nuremberg for : "Schwarz Tanz", "Macht der Nacht" events. (upcoming events)

After years of djing in Greece ( i worked as a djane since 2006 and my partner since 1998 ) we moved to Nuremberg, Germany.

GGotW: Where has your modelling taken you in the last 4 years?
MS: The last few years i've been working full-time as a djane and part-time as a model.

One of the greatest moments as a model was when the photographer Sophia Tsibikaki informed me that i am the cover of the book "Brida" by Paulo Coelho (Turkish edition).

GGotW: What prompted you to change countries?
MS: The crisis in Greece has affected everything. Everyday the government announces something new, this is crazy. So this was the reason to change countries, to live a normal life.
After all, i was traveling to Germany every year since 2006 and i was always dreaming to live in a beautiful place like this! Sometimes maybe I miss the Sea but not the Sun, and there are a lot of Rivers here to amaze me.

GGotW: What got you started in modelling?
Z: I've actually been a cosplayer twice as long as I've been modeling (Cosplaying for 11 years, modeling for 5). The very first photoshoot I ever did was of my Slave Leia cosplay. Originally, most of my modeling work was cosplay (a lot of it still is) but it has since progressed into a bunch of different genres :)

GGotW: What kind of modelling do you do?
Z: Magazine, web, runway, fashion house? Cosplay, horror, alternative/tattooed, fetish/ BDSM/
Shibari/ Suspension, art nudes, fantasy. A lot of my work has been published in magazines and on the internet, as I also make all of my own costumes.

GGotW: What styles do you like?
Z: Cosplay, goth, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic, historical recreation, fantasy, fetish, leather, latex, black metal, original creations, Steampunk, dieselpunk, rivethead, Rockabilly, pinup. I'm all over the place with style. I'm a costume designer at heart, so my style changes A LOT.

GGotW: Do you get a lot of opportunities to model?
Z: Oh, yes. The past couple years have been great. I'd always love to do more though!

GGotW: Is your Costume Design work connected to you living in Hollywood?
Z: My costume work is mostly connected to the cosplay, re-enactment, and pre-enactment (post-apocalyptic) scenes. I do a lot of cosplay work for conventions and events, and I make most of the outfits you see me wearing in my photos. I also run an alternative modeling/photography group that I do a lot of the styling and art direction for. I style models from time to time, but my favorite person to design for and number one client is myself :)

GGotW: Who have you shot with?
Z: I've been lucky enough to shoot with a lot of talented people. Some of my favorites and regulars: J S Edmonds, Saltwater Production Co, Grant Palmer, Ken Marcus, Victor Lightworship, OnePixArt, DW Kim, Mark A Whitaker, Cris Jan Lim, MXD Studios, Devin Devoor, etc. I do a lot of group shoots and have been shooting for 5 years now so I've worked with A LOT of people.

GGotW: Anyone you'd like to shoot with that you haven't?
Z: Oh yeah, tons. Adam Chilson is the number one on my list of people I'd like to work with. I'd also love to work with Robert Alvarado, Danger Ninja, Dastardly Dave, Lithium Picnic, Surgeon Studios, and Chad Michael Ward, to name a few. There are a ton of talented people in the country, and in LA alone.

GGotW: Where do you see yourself in three years?
Z: Who knows. Hopefully I'll be a much better costumer by then. This year already I've been learning all sorts of new skills like metalworking. I'm hoping to start a magazine with my photography group. I'd love to continue to have more work published and maybe to someday be on the cover of a magazine or several.

GGotW: Do you have advice for those wanting to get started as a model?
Z: Do projects you are passionate about. Do not be afraid to work for free as you are starting out, but do not be afraid to ask for what you are worth down the road when you have a solid portfolio. Be sure to create a strong network of friends and artists, as you grow together, you will all become stronger as a whole. Network, show up on time, be reliable, be professional. Be confident, promote yourself. Be proactive. Never expect things to be easy - You will have to work your butt off to be successful! But it's totally rewarding and awesome.

GGotW: What got you started as singer?

V: Music has always been an important part of my life. Since I can remember I showed a great interest in art in general. I started singing when I was really young, probably 5 or 6, it was just a hobby, something I really enjoyed doing. I’ve never thought of it as a work, but I couldn’t spend a single day without singing, it’s simply a part of my life.

GGotW: What have you accomplished as a singer?
V: I have written the lyrics for several songs and I have started to record some melodies. Right now I have two different musical projects: one on my own, and another with my boyfriend and a friend. I’m looking forward to having some free time to start recording the songs we already have and publish them. Right now I’m too busy with college assignments and modeling work!

GGotW: What are your bands called?
V: I haven’t thought of it yet. When I started my first band we spent so much time thinking about names that I had to leave it because the other members focused in every thing but music. I think a name is something that should come naturally, you can’t force it, so I’ll probably stick to my stage name until I find something that pleases me.

GGotW: Do you have a song in mp3 that we could hear?
V: No, sorry. I have a lot of home recordings but I haven’t had the opportunity to record any song in a studio yet.

GGotW: Have you done any live performances?
V: No, but I’d love to! I jump into the stage every time I have the chance to. Even though I am a very quiet person I change totally when I’m on stage.

GGotW: Where do you want to see your singing take you?
V: In an ideal world I would be on tour right now and modeling all over the world, but who knows where time will take me!

GGotW: How did you discover you had an interest in modeling?
V: Actually, by chance. When I was 11, I came across the trailer of Satanic Sluts, although it is not exactly modeling, but an alternative erotic film, it helped me discover that beautiful girls were not necessarily the ones we usually see in the covers of fashion magazines. There were alternative beauty standards which seemed a lot more interesting and creative to me. However, it wasn’t until the age of 15 when I had my first professional photo shoot, and from that moment on, I’ve been a part time model and I’ve tried to gain as much experience as I could.

GGotW: Who have you done pictures for?
V: Throughout these years I have worked with several photographers from my area. I am also starting with self-portraits because they give me the opportunity to fully express myself, but I’m still looking for photographers to collaborate with. I have a lot of projects and concepts that need to come to live! Regarding publications I have appeared in quite a few websites and magazines. I’m always looking for publications that can give me the chance to show my work to the world.

GGotW: How would you describe your personal style?
V: I think it would be impossible to describe my style in just a couple of words. I don’t like labels such as gothic, scene or cyber, nor do I fit in any of them. I prefer to take things from here and there to create my own style, which usually consist of a combination of girly things with dark elements and a little bit of fetish. I try to give my images a cute yet erotic feeling.

GGotW: Who influences you?
V: Most of my influences come from movies and music. I love old Hollywood glamour and vampire movies from the 20’s, but also the bizarre feeling and aesthetic that was so popular in the 70’s. Some musical movements that have also influenced my style are Glam Rock, Post-Punk/Goth bands from the 80’s and Dark Electro.

GGotW: What do you hope to accomplish with your modeling?
V: I’d like to start modeling for clothing brands and latex designers. In general I’m interested in everything related to fashion, from Haute Couture to bands’ merchandise. I also have a long list of photographers and models I’d love to collaborate with if I had the chance to. I am a big fan of MichellexStar Photography and Mosh modeling so working with them would be like a dream come true.

GGotW: What got you started as a model?
Artemis: The ever present passion to re-create and create what I see, feel, hear and read! I've always been largely impacted and influenced by various films, such as Underworld, SuckerPunch, Nightmare Before Christmas, Titanic, and more! Each of my inspirations,whether it be a film that moved me or an inspiring read, causes my imagination to run wild and in turn caused myself to find the perfect outlet for expression. The actual event that began my modeling career was 4 years ago, at a quaint cafe near Sacramento. I was approached by an Asian hair stylist (who is amazing at what she does) that owned her own salon: Rowena and Takashi. She asked me if I'd ever modeled before, and I said with a curious tone, "No I have not, but always wanted to!" After that I was runway walking for her, having my hair and make up done, modeling for her salon essentially.
(Photo to top right) I still to this day give her my gratitude for catapulting my career! Without her, perhaps I would not be as well off in modeling as I am today! After all those years, there's bigger and better art to come!


GGotW: What are your favorite styles to model?
Artemis: The styles that I love to see on others, in art, on runway, in films, and what I create to model is constantly evolving and changing. There are exciting designs in the works, only in the beginning stages, but look out for my designs! As of now, Steampunk couture, Gothic, haute couture, cyber, Victorian, and the dark vivid elegant styles are what catches my attention in art. Lady Gaga and her outrageous styles, Erik Aswang's fashion and art, The Art of Master Nick, Miss Overdose's designs, and more are among my ever-growing list of inspirations for the styles I love modeling.


GGotW: Who are your top photographers to work with?
Artemis: There are iconic photographers that I have yet to work with! I am dying to work with and for Sito Alivina, Mortiz Maibaum, Chad Michael Ward, Mary Taylor, Serena Star, and many more! I am soon to create dark art with Purebred Productions which is thrilling! The photographer, Master Nick is the one that is consuming all my artistic focus, he is also my dearly beloved. I love the art we create with all my heart. Past photographers that I have worked with which I'd consider TOP are, Paindancer Productions, Pixel Elegance, Marc Goldstein for The Red Chair, Michael Helms, and Perry.



GGotW: What do you do when not modeling?
Artemis: I am always modeling! haha, that is what it feels like anyways. The next project for modeling and/or acting is usually on my mind. I've been a writer of fiction, poetry, and stream of consciousness for nearly 8 years now, there is an erotica novel in the works, set in Victorian times. Drawing anime is one of my deep passions also, honing my skills on that as much as I can. Designing is a new passion of mine, to incorporate into modeling, have a few sketches and soon to work on those! Doing yoga, walking, and sex are also a BIG part of my life. Other than that I am a deep film and video game geek, and a knowledge geek! I have to read otherwise I become depressed. ;) I think that is it! Oh...I love to cook too! I just love life, my advice is that of Fight Club's advice- let go, let the chips fall where they may.
