[**Editor's note** I would like to apologize for the error in spelling Madaley's name back in 2009. Hopefully we have caught all the corrections to the site. We are sorry for any problems this may have caused]

GGotW: You were Featured as Goth Girl of the Week back in 2009, what have you been up to since?
MS: In the 2009 i graduated from Aristotle University where i was studying "Theology", and started dj-ing as full-time job.

The alternative modeling was difficult to survive in Greece although i was always working with model agencies and working as a model in various styles.
I start learning the Greek Sign Language and when I graduated, I moved to Germany (summer 2012).The purpose was to continue my studies as a translator in Greek sign language but the crisis in Greece changed my mind.

GGotW: Four years ago you said there were no ALT Model Agency's in your home of Greece, has that changed?
MS: Nothing has been changed... its not easy to work in Greece as alternative model. Fortunately there are some model agencies and photographers who support all kinds of models and there are opportunities.

GGotW: Are you still DJing?
MS: I am the manager and djane of the "Geisterwelt team". The last years was really great, various events in Greece such as the Amphi Festival & E-Tropolis Official Warm Up Parties in Thessaloniki, many tribute parties to bands, and participation with some of the biggest goth festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen in Germany and Castle Party Festival in Poland.

Some guest dj sets here in Nuremberg for : "Schwarz Tanz", "Macht der Nacht" events. (upcoming events)

After years of djing in Greece ( i worked as a djane since 2006 and my partner since 1998 ) we moved to Nuremberg, Germany.

GGotW: Where has your modelling taken you in the last 4 years?
MS: The last few years i've been working full-time as a djane and part-time as a model.

One of the greatest moments as a model was when the photographer Sophia Tsibikaki informed me that i am the cover of the book "Brida" by Paulo Coelho (Turkish edition).

GGotW: What prompted you to change countries?
MS: The crisis in Greece has affected everything. Everyday the government announces something new, this is crazy. So this was the reason to change countries, to live a normal life.
After all, i was traveling to Germany every year since 2006 and i was always dreaming to live in a beautiful place like this! Sometimes maybe I miss the Sea but not the Sun, and there are a lot of Rivers here to amaze me.

GGotW: How long have you modeled for?
AOC: I started amateur modeling in 2005, but it wasn't until about 2007 that I started posing for professional photographers.

GGotW: Who have you shot for?
AOC:
Jennifer Link Photography - Ron Douglas Photography - Luke Copping Photography- Danielle McGraw Photography -
.......and a couple amateur photographers. I Just recently did some work with Public Image Photography of Rochester, NY.

GGotW: How long have you DJ'd?
AOC: I just began DJing in my spare time in February of 2009.

GGotW: What do you do when you're not spinning or posing?
AOC: Running TechNoir Events has taken up much of my life the past 2 years. Besides supplying monthly goth industrial dance events I have organized a fashion show, which included FuturState and Dementia, an art gallery showing, multiple band performances and I even held a fundraiser to benefit R.A.R.E., which is our area's only reptile rehabilitation clinic. Keeping my TechNoir website updated on a daily basis is a lot of work. I inform people of local shows and activities going on as well as posting news about the bands they love.Climbing the stairs

GGotW: Which do you enjoy more?
AOC: I enjoy both equally. They are both educative and fantastic experiences. Running TechNoir and having people dance to the music you play makes you feel good, like you are doing something good for the goth community, giving them a place where they can go where they feel comfortable and can have a good time. Modeling is a great way to meet new people, travel the state/country for shoots and participate in fun local fashion shows.Buffalo Goth

GGotW: What are you future goals?
AOC: At the end of summer I am moving out of Buffalo to Rochester NY, where I hope to continue having TechNoir Events and guest DJing at their goth club, Vertex. I wish to become more involved in the promotion side of things. Right now I am the area's sole promoter for the Combichrist: Demons on Tour tour. I wish to set up more shows in the future. Some day I'd like to be able to open a bar catering to the goth industrial scene.

GGotW: Give us some details on Buffalo's Goth Industrial scene.
Goth DJAOC: Our goth industrial bar, The Continental closed about 3 years ago. It delivered a huge blow to Buffalo's goth scene. A new bar opened up that was interested in hosting gothic events, but it was never promoted properly and there were issues with the bar that prevented people from attending events. Two of my friends and I decided that the scene needed to be re-vamped and we started TechNoir, which threw events on a monthly basis. Our events have themes, which people can choose to dress up for if they'd like to. We brought in special guest djs (from as far as NYC and Cleveland, OH) and booked a couple shows.goth babe TechNoir has been running for 2 years this month. It has also spawned two more local goth industrial events. So while the scene in Buffalo is kind of fading away, there are people here who care enough about it to try and keep it afloat.

GGotW: You sound like an all around performer, have you always been like that?
AOC: It's only been the last few years that I really decided to get involved with promoting for local events. But in these past two years I have made a lot of connections, made a lot of new friends, and have become more involved in the general goth scene of the country. Joining multiple forums to post events has given me the chance to get my name out there. And I feel very successful.

GGotW: What got you started as a model?
MS: I have worked as a model for the last 8 years. I was in a competition where they were looking for the face of the year... They chose me out of 500 girls from all over Greece. Unfortunately I was on vacation and saw wasn't able to go. After that I decided to join a model agency.

GGotW: Were you a goth first or a model first?
MS: My first job as a model was more into other styles than my own. You see, in Greece there isn't a model agency for alternative styles. It hasn't been a problem for me to work in other styles, but of course I would prefer Goth.

GGotW: From your bio it looks like you do a lot of non-goth modeling work too. What is it that you like about Gothic modeling?
MS: I feel myself ;-)

GGotW: You DJ, what kind of sets?
MS: Darkwave, Gothic Rock, Medieval, Electrogoth, Industrial, and Synthpop. I am a member of Geisterwelt DJs.

GGotW: What is the best experience you have had as a model?
MS: Taking part in Greek model competition.

GGotW: Where do you hope modeling takes you?
MS: LETS SEE...;-P

GGothW: Corset size 18", really?
SSV: Indeed. :) The coveted 18” waist is mine!

GGothW:
When did you start modeling?
SSV: I’ve been modeling off and on since I was 13 or14. I started off with traditional print modeling for local ads. My agency thought I’d get taller than 5’6, but when I turned 16 and was still 5’6, I couldn’t get any more work. Plus, they weren’t too fond of the fact that I had a different hair color every other week. The same year I started working in a store at the mall (which shall remain nameless) and met a goth photographer. We shot in a local Houston cemetery (Hollywood cemetery, aka “the 24 hour cemetery”) and my alt modeling “career” began!

GGothW: What photographers have you worked with?
SSV: I’ve worked with Blind Monkey Studio (AMAZING female photographer), Reactuate Photography (photographer of the Goth Swimsuit Calendar), Natasha Epperson (Awesome female fetish photographer), and Jason R. Stone (of the Goth Glamour Girls website) just to name a few.

GGothW: Being from Texas, have you worked with Philip "Lithium Picnic" Warner?
SSV: Yes, I have. He’s amazing. I’ve worked with him only once in a studio setting while modeling for SINched corsets, but he’s photographed numerous events I’ve been involved with. I used to go-go dance at an event called Pan*Sonic back in 2003 and he shot club pictures for the event. He has also photographed several fashion shows I’ve been involved with for designers including SINched, Heavy Red, and Azrael’s Accomplice.

GGothW: What kind of modeling do you like to do?
SSV: I prefer to do creative shoots as opposed to shoots on a plain background. I have shot everything from goth to pin-up to fetish to fashion, but I always go back to goth. When I shoot fashion, I get slightly bored looking at the images. I love to do location shoots and shoots with crazy over-the-top sets.

GGothW: Who have you not worked with that you would like to?
SSV: There are tons! I don’t get to travel much now that I have a full time day job, but I’d love to work with 666 Photography, Viva Van Story, and Nadya Lev. I could go on and on. One day when I’m rich, I’ll travel around the world and work with all the great alt photographers (unless someone wants to fund that trip now!).

GGothW: Other than modeling, what do you do?
SSV: I DJ, act, make hats, make spooky jewelry out of polymer clay, and create “horror decoupage.”

GGothW: What kind of stuff to you like to spin when DJ-ing?
SSV: I love to spin deathrock, goth, punk, psychobilly, and old school industrial. I just love to make people dance! I used to run a weekly night here in Houston called Bone Church, which was so much fun. We had theme nights, costume contests and giveaways almost every week. Some of my favorite bands include: Specimen, The Cramps, 45 Grave, Ex-Voto, Skeletal Family, Ausgang, Mad Sin, and The Flametrick Subs.

GGothW: You've done some acting, Anything we may have seen?
SSV: Doubtful. I’ve been in several short films by Kevin DeVil, including Zombies Most Wanted parts 1 and 2, and I had the lead role in Walking After Midnight. They’re probably on Youtube somewhere by now. I’ve got several more short films in the works right now.

GGothW: How do you mix your profession of Environmental Law with the goth-modeling common fabrics like Latex?
SSV: I don’t mix them, actually…I keep them pretty separate. Although, I do love the thought of walking into the courtroom all decked out in a latex suit with a pencil skirt and ruffled suit jacket. That would be incredibly hot, and I’m sure the jury would hang on my every word. ;)

GGothW: For someone with limited free time you seem to do a lot, are you just well organized?
SSV: I wouldn’t call myself well organized by any stretch of the imagination…I just don’t sleep a lot! I try to make time to pursue my interests outside of law because if I didn’t have a creative outlet, I’d go crazy.

GGothW: What is your favorite activity?
SSV: I don’t really have a favorite out of all my creative pursuits. Right now, I’m spending most of my free time updating my modeling portfolio. I have new hair, so I need new pictures!

Goth Girl of the Year 2007 Winner

We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2007 Goth Girl of the Year.

London Shadows

The sexy DJ was our second feature of 2007.

It was a tough race this year as the membership could not make a clear decision and last year's winner was unable to get back to us in time to vote. The public voting system worked fantastically and we thank Poll Daddy for their great work.

Over 500 members of the public voted, some spurned on by the girls and their own blogs, there was one that got off to a fast start but in the end Whitembrace captured 15% of the public vote and Violet Eyes and DJ N3cr0phelia both got 12%. But the public vote only counts for 1 vote, the members of GGotW, those of us working behind the scenes on the site each get a vote, and our votes were all different until the last member's vote was read.

Dj N3cr0phelia is a graduate student from Puerto Rico majoring in English literature with a minor in comparative literature. She's a year away from completing her Master's degree, which is the most important thing to her right now. She's fascinated by language, its mechanics and its psychology, and is in love with words.
N3cr0phelia's been winning awards, minor ones, of course, for pieces of prose, essays and poetry since she was in the fourth grade.

DJ N: I work as a tutor and teacher's assistant at the UPR, where I study.
I took piano lessons when I was younger, and I own a synthesizer, but wouldn't dare say that I play. For a short time, I was a member of a local band called RazorSun, but never got to perform with them, haha.
So it's safe to say that I'm a big music enthusiast, but I lack the skill, so I just listen, and sometimes, spin and mix. I'm a Dj at local goth clubs. I'm proud to be a staff member and Dj for Radio Clandestina, thanks to whom I've met musicians that I'm a big fan of, and have been a guest Dj for Alto Dominio.

DJ N: As a hobby, I like to draw, paint and do some minimal graphic design.
My website is an example. In it are contained some of my drawings and paintings, which are quite childish, but sincere.
I paint in oil and acrylics, and have been commissioned in the past.
Some of my artwork and pseudo-photography can be found at my deviantart account. I am inevitably immersed in the "goth" subculture, but I try hard not to be absorbed by the vanity that sometimes surrounds me.

GGotW: What got you into the goth scene?

DJ N: Oh, this is a tricky one. Although I discovered the local scene when I was about 16 years old, I think I was always kind of "goth" before I even knew what "goth" was. Even as a little girl, I had somewhat darker fixations and aesthetic taste... I started dressing mostly in black at around 12, when I fell in love with Edgar Allan Poe and wrote angsty poetry because the world didn't understand me. I suppose angst was the root of it all.
Then I started discovering bands that sang about things I felt. And then there was the internet, of course, where I started connecting with people with similar ideals and taste in music.

GGotW: What got you into radio work?

DJ N: Oh, I'm sorry if I was misleading, it's not radio work. I spin at local clubs, where I can at least see everybody dancing.
The person who got me into that was a friend, Dj Wanker from Radio Clandestina, who suggested I spin at a female vocalist themed goth party. He introduced me to club deejaying by inviting me and teaching me how to do it.

GGotW: What is you favorite thing about the gothic subculture?
DJ N: It gets to a point where you forget how things are in the outside world, haha, so we take it for granted. It is when I socialize in groups of conservative people, or who are mostly into pop culture, or from other "scenes," that I become fully aware of how much I enjoy the company of other "goths" - even when they annoy me. I don't know how it works in other countries, but here, it's like a big, dysfunctional family where everyone knows (and sometimes makes fun of) one another, but we accept each other. It's a network where you know people are bound to have at least a few things in common with you, and that makes way for easier understanding.
Regular people don't laugh as hard as your jokes sometimes, when you're a goth.

GGotW: Who's your favorite group to spin right now?
DJ N: I don't think I have a favorite group to spin, I always try to play whatever makes people dance. An empty dance floor dissapoints me.
Lately it seems, the noisier, the better, for most club kids... Combichrist, Terrorfakt, Xotox, Agonoize are requested a lot.
I personally like to spin either really silly or cheesy 80s synthpop songs. Surprisingly, people like dancing to them!

GGotW: Where do you spin?
DJ N: There's no definite venue, it all depends on where the crew from RadioClandestina.com organize the events to be.
On the 10th I'll be spinning at our biggest yearly goth event, NeKropolis 6, I'm excited about that.

GGotW: How often do you spin?
DJ N: Not as often as I'd like because I'm very busy lately, but I try to whenever the boys from Radio Clandestina invite me.

GGotW: How would you describe the Puerto Rico goth scene?
DJ N: It's happy, ironically! For goths, that is...
I have no source of comparison except from what I hear from online friends and from the bands that have come to play... many of them comment how bouncy and friendly puertorican goths are. True, wearing goth gear and makeup is a bit too hot for the tropics, especially with all the bouncing around that we do, but it's lots of fun.

GGotW: What got you into the Gothic lifestyle?
LS: 26 years ago when we were hanging out with the punks in Baltimore we knew we weren't as cruel as the punks but wanted to be creative in our look. so we made others think before they acted and called ourselves "individualist" and eventually since we preferred more synthesized music reffered to ourselves as "syntech-glam rockers". it wasn't until around the time that m.manson came out that the whole "goth" word was used.

GGotW: How do you define the Gothic Lifestyle?
LS: Being creative, original and accepting yourself and presenting that as your presence on the outside. when people make rude comments instead of cursing or being rude back ask them questions and get them to understand that you did not judge them for their comment but make them realize that you are not "evil" or "mean" and that you are who you are without a classification.

GGotW: What part of the US are you in?
LS: Washington, DC

GGotW: Do you work in the goth community, can you work in your style, or is it an after work style.
LS: This is me 24/7. I am a goth/fetish fashion model as well as a DJ for the Goth-Industrial Scene at DC's Midnight. and have guested at a few fetish events in Miami as well as North Carolina

GGotW: What draws do Goth pictures?
LS: The uniqueness in style and not thinking that you are the hottest thing on the planet. and showing your inner beauty to the world through film.

GGotW: Who does most of you pictures?
LS: Larry Bradby mostly as well as Charlie Pilzer, Angel Morales and John Holmes.

GGotW: Have you been paid to model, what was the experience like?
LS: Yes it was alot of fun and the photographer allowed my input to improve the concept he had for me so that it would be more fetishy than a nude shoot.

GGotW: What is your favorite image to date?
LS: I would have to say my fetish angel pic. although it was taken in 2001 i have always loved that pic and my facial expression is just too angelic to even try to redo.

GGotW: What is planned for the future?
LS: I plan on touring with my djing all over the states and do even more modeling especially for the fetish/goth clubs that i dj for.

GGotW: Where can people find you on the net?
LS: I am all over, I have 2 different accounts on Myspace: modellondonshadows as well as londonshadows. I'm also on Model Locate #4427, ModelMayhem.com, One Model Place, Retro Kitten, www.cityevents.tv, talent hunter.com, Castlist and Muse Cube.

GGotW: Do you have any advice for the younger Goths looking to model and get into the community?
LS: Be true to yourself and always accept conformist comments with an open mind and a clear head to get people to realize that the "goth scene" and community is one of the most civilized in the world and just get people to realize that "we are not satanic and that the media loves making us into monsters that are not in horror films.

As most of my signatures are on aol, yahoo and msn says" Just Relax and Enjoy the Ride."
